Image from the NC Arboretum. Bronze statue created by artist Zenos Frudakis.
Always admired Olmsted since learning & writing about him at the College of Charleston. The Father of American Landscape Architecture.
National Geographic named the Art Loeb Trial one of the 30 best hikes in North American. Right off the Blue Ridge Parkway at milepost 420.
View taking advantage of the rocks on Black Balsam knob along the Art Loeb Trail. Infrared black and white image.
Able to get out for a hike on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Only covered 5 or 6 miles on the Art Loeb Trail but it was a nice afternoon to enjoy. The plaque is at the highest point along Black Balsam.
I've always liked this little garden shed with a "green" roof at the North Carolina Arboretum. Living in full sun the mosses reduce the heat for the building. The shed has a rainwater misting irrigation system to support the native mosses.
Blue Ridge Parkway milepost 401.1. Wash Creek Valley Overlook is a simple turnout along the road. The tree stand above the sign provided the framing for the composition.
Milepost 430.7 along the Blue Ridge Parkway leads to the Cowee Mountain Overlook. Most photographers think of this location because of the panoramic views and dramatic sunsets. Looking forward to visiting again soon to shoot additional images from this location.
A few color images from the trip up to the Cowee Mountain Overlook. Since I was there in the middle of the day and wasn't able to take advantage of sunset I spent most of the time creating black and white images. Search the site by milepost or name to see additional examples.
