My favorite new photos from 2020. I shot a lot of black and white landscapes and color macros. Spent more time on Little Pisgah Mountain. The trips planned were disrupted because of the pandemic. During the down time I started organizing older images. I’m looking forward to the return of road trips and unrestricted travel.
Long exposure helps create a sense of movement in the photo. Shot during sunset on Little Pisgah looking towards the Hickory Nut Gorge.
Infrared sunset overlooking the Black Mountains from Little Pisgah. The clouds and light were dramatic but the color never really popped so i kept shooting in black and white.
Shot in early October but the feeling I got was this was the end of fall. Its been a busy month of work so I didn't get to shoot as many color images as I wanted. This busy composition caught my attention on the Blue Ridge Parkway.
Cradle of Forestry on the Blue Ridge Parkway, milepost 411. Really liked how this image turned out on a hazy overcast day. Didn't have the dramatic blacks typical of an infrared shot but it shows off the mountains well.
On top of Little Pisgah. One of my favorite places on the planet. Simple shot to take, the clouds and weather create the changes. Infrared black and white.
The Rankin Street Garage is a great place to check out Asheville. Didn't have any clouds to work with on this trip but tried to split the composition into 3rds.
The Arras is the tallest building in Asheville, measuring 18 stories at 228 feet. Originally built as an office complex in 1964 I grew up knowing it as the BB&T building. Recent renovation has changed it into a hotel and condo in the center of town.
Mt. Pisgah from the Blue Ridge Parkway. Black and white infrared image helps create the contrast and cuts down on the haze. The tower just disappears into the sky, did not take it out in photoshop. Shot from the Bad Fork Valley Overlook.
Favorite shot from the quick walk around the Carl Sandburg Home in Flat Rock. In between appointments, this is a great place to get outside. Need to go up to Big Glassy again sometime soon.
I believe this is the rectory (or parish house) at the Basilica of St. Lawrence in Asheville, NC. Beautiful building downtown next to the Civic Center. I'll try to create a category for the architectural tour in Asheville with some of the images I'm collecting.
