My favorite new photos from 2020. I shot a lot of black and white landscapes and color macros. Spent more time on Little Pisgah Mountain. The trips planned were disrupted because of the pandemic. During the down time I started organizing older images. I’m looking forward to the return of road trips and unrestricted travel.
This image reminds me of Bill Logan. When I was 16 i took a similar composition (nearly the same spot) he helped me develop in his darkroom. There were only a couple photos that got his attention so it stuck with me.
Searching for stones at Mount Moriah Baptist Church. Visiting old family graves I hadn't seen since I was a kid. 6 Generations back in Henderson County on the Jackson side of my family. After posting this photo on social media I had several people commenting on the age and origin of the tree. Hope to run that story down further.
I like the simplicity of the photo, wish the colors were more dramatic. Nice even lighting during the magic hour.
Lensball photo from Little Pisgah Mountain. A little bit of luck and experimentation are required when your subject is upside down. I flip them after taking the images so it appears normal.
The infrared black and white helps cut through the haze during the summer. Thought this composition was pretty good. The contrast between the trees and horizon line help frame the mountains.
Black and white infrared from the Bad Fork Valley Overlook. Easy to shoot a variety of images on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Go up with a purpose or location and let nature do the work.
Would like to shoot some astrological photos when I have time to sleep in. During one of tests on the Blue Ridge Parkway I noticed a plane streaking through so I let the aperture stay open to capture the motion. Since the camera can handle it I need to pick a time for Milky Way exposures around 3:30 in the morning...
Shooting away from a sunset can provide warm light on a subject. Don't waste the time waiting on the sun to go down.
There was plenty in bloom on the Flowering Bridge at Lake Lure. This vibrant yellow flower provided a few compositions to play with.
The beach at Lake Lure. Took this image coming back from a property showing in Rutherford. The mountains create a nice backdrop for images.
