My favorite new photos from 2020. I shot a lot of black and white landscapes and color macros. Spent more time on Little Pisgah Mountain. The trips planned were disrupted because of the pandemic. During the down time I started organizing older images. I’m looking forward to the return of road trips and unrestricted travel.
Very simple composition relies on depth of filed and leading lines to guide focus. Had additional compositions but this is the one that stood out.
Haywood Road in West Asheville. The majority of the time these spaces are filled and the roads are full. During the lockdown there is a peaceful feeling walking around but I'm ready for that familiar busy energy to return.
Azalea macro images from Carolina Native Nursery. With white subjects you need to reduce exposure, 1/3 stop here to reduce detail loss. Liked the compositions from this size flower as its easy to get in close.
My favorite landscape from Little Pisgah on March 18th, right before the cows started making their way across the pasture. Feedback on social media says the cow photo was the winner...
Rhododendron macro from Carolina Native Nursery. The petals in focus center attention on the stamen. Had several shots with different points of focus but this is the one that stood out to me.
Caught a couple images of the cows in the pasture on Little Pisgah. Sunrise wasn't exciting but the light broke through the clouds for at the right time.
One of the things I consider before shooting sunrise is the weather. Took an opportunity on March 18th to go up to Little Pisgah as the rain was finishing up. The light broke through about 20 minutes after sunrise on the rock in the Hickory Nut Gorge. The clouds began clearing quickly leading to nice directional light.
Taken Friday (3-20-20) as it was getting dark, used a lantern to focus on the rocks in the foreground. Long exposure helped the glow from the houses in the valley. Took off as the rain set in a few minutes later.
A little later in the afternoon, watching the showers from the top of Little Pisgah. 3/20/20.
