Took this Cactus macro abstract of one of the specimens within the Biltmore Conservatory. I believe at the back of the Hot House. Had planned to look for vertical and horizontal lines for the day, wish the focus was better on the spines but I'll try again soon enough.
Watching entirely too much of Game of Thrones series, all I see is a dragon. Somewhat kidding, I'll update the text when I get information on the plant.
Working on a flower macro I noticed this little fly circling. When it landed I got as close as possible before it decided to buzz off...But, this is what was left from our brief interaction. Lucky timing.
Macro abstract from within the flower. Shallow depth of field on the star pattern caught my attention. Wish there was additional areas that had sharp focus to pull attention. But as it sits, the colorful negative space works.
I believe this is a Canna, could be wrong. Was drawn to the color and texture with the shallow depth of field.
Macro abstract as these two plants were overlapping to create these ridges of color. Amaryllis is the flower, not sure of the other plant.
I took a very similar composition earlier but the focus wasn't quite right.
Being somewhat terrible at plant identification I shared this with a group on facebook for help. The first response is that I need a better photo for identification. Ha, very accurate. After a lot of debate this is an Amaryllis flower but the leaves are from another plant. People get fired up over plant ids.
Vanderbilt planned to have over 800 orchids in the conservatory. There are about 600 varieties today.
