The Walled Garden at the Biltmore Estate was planned by Frederick Law Olmsted to include spaces for fruits and vegetables. George Vanderbilt overruled that vision and decided it was for “ornament, not utility” as the fruit trees and vegetables that were planted were phased out over time. This photo was taken at the very end of the tulips as it was one of the last rows left. Will have to get there next year to see the entire display.
