Mountain Memory was completed in 2013 by sculpture Berry Bate. The ridges represent Mt. Pisgah, Pinnacle and Sugarloaf Mountains while the rivers represent the French Broad, the Green and Big Hungry. Somewhat controversial because it was completed at a cost of $183,284, the city of Hendersonville got to hold an ongoing debate on public art installations. I personally like to see these large installations but I’m still looking at the price tag with a bit of shock. At the time it was one of two planned pieces, the second going by the wayside as citizens weren’t pleased with the use of tax dollars.
