Kings Canyon Scenic Byway

Jonathan Jackson2020-01-02T15:18:25+00:00

Last photo from the Kings Canyon Scenic Byway.  Really enjoyed my time on the road and in this section of the park.  If i have more time I'll post additional images from Knapps Cabin and other locations I haven't had time to work on.

Not entirely sure why this image caught my attention.  Simple roadside rock on highway 180 in Kings Canyon.  Like the perspective of the smaller rock mirroring the mountain behind it?

Zumwalt Meadows was also flooded from the Kings River.  Would like to go back later in the summer, early fall to view it when the trails are open.  Typically you can walk right out along a boardwalk where I took this photo.

Roaring River Falls in Kings Canyon.  The Kings River was roaring with the snowpack at 170 percent of its average snowfall still melting.  This was a tiny, paved hike to the falls, worth seeing.

Two forks of the Kings River come together at Junction View.  One of the most popular turnouts along highway 180.  Deeper into the canyon we go...

Shoreside chairs on Hume Lake. Close to the beginning of the trailhead. A little too early for everyone to be on the water.

A little later on in the drive the clouds set in and softened the landscape.  Jumped out to stretch my legs and enjoy the shade.

Kings Canyon is the deepest canyon in the US.  Decided to drive to the roads end and there were several pull-offs to view the mountains.  The color image shows the road with better detail, black and white has a better texture for the brutal landscape.

Panoramic Point in Kings Canyon.  Looking towards Hume Lake from this quick paved hike.  We stopped for lunch a couple miles from the trail head in Grant Village.
