Wolfe’s Neighborhood-Asheville Urban Trail Stop #18

Wolfe's neighborhood is stop #18 on the Asheville Urban Trail.  Standing in Wolfe's footprints this installation allows you to view where the historic buildings portrayed in his boyhood would have stood.  Will need a better time of day to create a strong image for this spot but I liked the concept of the station.

Elizabeth Blackwell-Asheville Urban Trail #6

Stop #6 on the Asheville Urban Trail honors Elizabeth Blackwell for her contributions to medicine.  An Asheville resident, Blackwell was the first female in the country to earn a medical degree. She also went on to found the world's first 4-year medical college for women and created the New York Infirmary for Women and Children in 1857.

Catwalk

Cat Walk is Station #9 on the Asheville Urban Trail.  The bronze cats mark the site of a retaining wall that provided access to the 2nd floor shops by crossing foot bridges.  Sculptor Vadim Bora created the statues, several cats & mice dot the location on Wall Street.

Stepping Out

Simple shot of the "Stepping Out" station, #3 on the Asheville Urban Trail.  This bronze installation represents the Grand Opera House that once stood on Patton Avenue.  As with many of the bronze sculptures on the trail, it was created by students at UNCA under the leadership of Dan Millspaugh.

Thomas Wolfe Memorial-Asheville Urban Trail Station #19

Famous American Literature landmark at the Thomas Wolfe Memorial.  Going to go back at a better time of day and rephotograph this.  I like how the Queen Anne architecture contrasts nicely with the modern design at 60 North Market Condos.  The bronzed shoes are urban trail station #19.
